Outer Listening is a collaborative performance series founded in 2025 by Mars Dietz together with danilo machado, Ana Božičević, Saar Shemesh and Andrea Atehourta.
The flexible format is focused on the combination of words and sounds, bringing together invited writers, researchers, activists, and musicians, sound artists and technologists for collaborative encounters and solo performances. Guest performances are bookeneded by experimental sets from resident DJs Mars Dietz a.k.a. Sapphic Faggot and danilo machado a.k.a. Queer Shoulders, blending club music, remixes, pop, jazz, atmospheric music, and field recordings of weather, speeches or spontaneous poetry readings, for example.
Outer Listening prioritizes access through NOTAFLOF pricing, wheelchair-accessible stage design and siting, mask requirements, clean air, seating options and an open format encouraging audiences to move freely in and out of the performance space. Outer Listening is entirely DIY, operating like a collective artist studio, and will continue expanding and morphing into 2026 and beyond.
